Story 24

Tishya, (she, her, hers), 34, from Springfield, Missouri, USA

What are the most significant changes in your life due to the global pandemic?
I am very lazy and I hate to cook. Under normal circumstances, we had a cook and we also used to eat out like 4 or 5 times a week. I can’t believe that I now cook twice daily. For most of the people, this might be something very normal and insignificant but for me it is a big deal.

What are you most grateful for despite being a part of the global pandemic?
I am very grateful that all my family and friends are safe. I am also very grateful that my husband has his job.

What are you most looking forward to after this pandemic is over?
Meeting my parents and also having pizza, biryani and phuchka.

Story 19

Srirupa, (she, her, hers), 34, from Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA

What are the most significant changes in your life due to the global pandemic?
I am probably one of the very few that gained a little from this pandemic, setting aside the devastation of it all. Currently my better half and I are in a long distance relationship across the country. Due to the work-from-home situation, we are being able to be in the same place again. Other than that, virtual meetings and working long hours in a make-shift home office setup are painful. Also, summer is here and all travel plans have gone down the drain!

What are you most grateful for despite being a part of the global pandemic?
To be with my partner, to have stable jobs in these times of uncertainty, knowing our family and friends are safe and in good spirits so far, and enjoying what I call my profession – while being locked down.

What are you most looking forward to after this pandemic is over?
Travelling and meeting friends!

Such

What are the most significant changes in your life due to the global pandemic?
One of the almost overnight changes was in our work environment. Working from home helped save transport time of one hour each day, which I felt was making me more productive in the long run. On the other hand, not being able to go out to dine, wine, work out meant coming up with new ways of engaging with friends and family, from arranging date nights at home to attending Zoom chat sessions with friends every weekend.

What are you most grateful for despite being a part of the global pandemic?
Under the given circumstances, I am deeply grateful that my family and I can enjoy relative good health and economic stability . It makes me keenly aware of my privilege at the same time. On a lighter note, I am quite thankful for a good Internet connection.

What are you most looking forward to after this pandemic is over?
Travel, travel and travel.
